1. What are cookies and local storage?
This Cookie Policy explains how TempMail (“we,” “us,” or “our”) uses cookies, web beacons, HTML5 local storage, and similar technologies when you visit https://www.temp-mail.services/.
Cookies are small data files placed on your browser or device by websites you visit. They are sent back to the originating website on subsequent visits or to third-party services that recognize that cookie.
HTML5 Local Storage allows web applications to store key-value data directly on your device inside your browser profile. Local storage data is not automatically transmitted with every HTTP network request, offering greater efficiency and security for client-side state management.
2. How TempMail uses browser local storage
We use browser localStorage strictly to deliver essential temporary email features:
| Storage Key | Purpose | Data Stored | Lifespan |
|---|---|---|---|
temp-mail-address |
Restores your current regular temporary email address upon reload. | Email address string | Until cleared or changed by user |
temp-mail-gmail-inbox-v1 |
Authenticates your browser to view incoming messages for your active Gmail alias. | Bearer access token & hidden message IDs | Until cleared, expired, or regenerated |
temp-mail-theme |
Remembers your visual theme preference across pages. | “light” or “dark” | Persistent on device |
3. First-party cookies on TempMail
TempMail does not set mandatory user registration or authentication cookies for public inbox users. The primary first-party cookie used on our domain is:
- Administrator Session Cookie (
__Host-temp_adminortemp_admin): A secure,HttpOnly,SameSite=Strictcookie issued only to authorized site administrators upon completing multi-factor OTP authentication. It is not set on public user devices.
4. Third-party advertising technologies
To keep TempMail free, we partner or plan to partner with third-party advertising vendors, including Google AdSense. Third-party vendors use cookies and device identifiers to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites:
- Google AdSense & Advertising Cookies: Google uses cookies (such as the DoubleClick cookie) to serve ads based on past visits, evaluate ad effectiveness, prevent fraud, and apply frequency capping so you are not shown the same ad repetitively.
- Strict Email Privacy Isolation: TempMail never shares your private temporary email address, email messages, subject lines, senders, attachments, or Google OAuth credentials with advertisers or in ad request queries.
5. Analytics and diagnostic cookies
When enabled by administrators, diagnostic analytics tools help us monitor performance:
- PostHog: May use local storage or cookies to track aggregate page navigation and browser error events. Email viewer dialogs, input fields, and message contents are blocked from session recordings.
- Google Analytics (gtag.js): Measures general website traffic and aggregate referral sources. Message identifiers are masked from recorded URLs.
6. How to manage and disable cookies
You have several ways to control, block, or delete cookies:
- Browser Settings: You can configure your browser to reject cookies, prompt you before accepting cookies, or delete stored cookies. Consult your browser’s “Help” menu (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge).
- Google Ad Personalization: Opt out of personalized advertising by Google at Google Ads Settings.
- Industry Opt-Outs: Visit the DAA WebChoices Browser Tool or the NAI Consumer Opt-Out.
Note that disabling cookies entirely does not affect basic temporary email generation on TempMail, as public inboxes rely on local storage rather than tracking cookies.
